Journalist

Josi Hinds grew up writing, but it wasn’t until she joined her high school newspaper that she realized she had a passion for reporting, too.

That passion led Hinds to pursuing a major in Communications with an emphasis in Journalism from the University of Utah. While there, she wrote for The Daily Utah Chronicle as an arts writer before making the jump to news editor. As editor, Hinds helped guide the coverage of historic resource center closures on campus, local and state elections, student organizations, and more.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the work the desk produced and I’m immensely grateful for the team behind it all.”

Hinds: What a Ride

While in Utah, Hinds also wrote for Salt Lake City Weekly, where she covered city hall. Hinds wrote regular city council recaps in addition to developing several long-form cover stories, including one covering a major redevelopment in Salt Lake City and another diving into the city’s annual budget. Here, Hinds developed a deep interest in municipal politics and city development.

After graduating, Hinds spend several months working with Bozeman Magazine, where she wrote articles in addition to creating weekly videos for social media.

Now, she’s a graduate student at the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Insitute at NYU. As part of the Reporting the Nation & New York program, she’s developing and honing skills in multimedia to become a comprehensive storyteller across mediums.
